On Veterans Day, Mr. Earl Diamond, Dr. Richard Lavy, and Dr. Donna Kahn, members of the JWV Annapolis Post #380 attended and participated in the Memorial Day Ceremony at the City Docks featuring our Mayor along with a special treat - the Silent Drill Team from the United States Naval Academy.  This ceremony took place at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

After the ceremony, Dr. Donna Kahn spoke at the Aleph-Bet Day School in Annapolis - during the children's Veteran's Day Program.  Three of our post members were in attendance: Rabbi Daniella Kolodny, LTC Art Torf (ret), and Mr. Earl Diamond.  LTC Art Torf and Earl Diamond were recognized for perfect attendance at the Veterans Day progams at Aleph Bet for the last four years.

You should know that LTC Torf was a huge hit with the children as he wore his dress uniform!

As always, the children were the real stars of the day and really worked hard to make this year's Veterans Day Program a special one.  The fifth-grade class actually wrote and performed a play about veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces - from the civil war up through the present day. All of the children were fabulous - and I was very proud of all of them.

As the children marched off the stage, Dr. Kahn distributed goodie bags (organic juice, pretzels, and patriotic stickers) to each child - courtesy of JWV, Annapolis Post #380.

Military Personnel Records

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214 online:  http://vetrecs.archives.gov/.   This system is called eVetRecs and individuals can use the system to create a customized order form to request information from the individual, or his/her relative's, military personnel records. You may use this system if you are:
*   A military veteran, or
*   Next of kin of a deceased, former member of the military
*   The next of kin can be any of the following: surviving spouse that has not remarried, father, mother, son, daughter, sister, or brother.
This will certainly cut the time veterans have had in the past waiting for copies of their DD-214's and will be particularly helpful when they need a copy of their DD-214 for employment purposes.   NPRC indicates the DD-214 will be provided within 10 days, and an email will provided to the requestor with an actual date they should expect the information.
